The City of Lumberton Water Treatment Plant is committed to safety for their employees and the community.  The facility serves the community by treating and provideing drinking water to the residents of Lumberton and surrounding areas.  The facility is currently capable of producing 16,000,000 gallons per day and routinely treats more then 11,000,000 gallons per day of potable water during peak summer demand periods.  The City maintains cylinders of chlorine gas liquified by pressure on site for use as a disinfectant.  All operators are trained on the safe use of chlorine and operations are performed in accordance to the facility's Process Safety Management Plan. The treatment plant and local fire department staff routinely conduct annual emergency response drills on site.  The facility has never had a release that  caused off-site consequences.
