City of Aberdeen Wastewater Treatment Plant - Executive Summary

The Aberdeen Wastewater Treatment Plant uses chlorine gas as a means of disinfecting the treated effluent which is discharged to Moccasin Creek.  The disinfection process is mandated from May 1 through September 30 of each year.  The rest of the year the effluent is not disinfected therefore the chlorine gas is not utilized. 
 
Plant personnel are not trained hazardous waste responders in the event of an accidiental release.  That designation is left to the Aberdeen Fire Department Personnel. 
 
Within the past five years this facility has had no accidental release that caused offsite impacts.
