Van de Wetering Greenhouses, Inc. is a wholesale greenhouse.  Our 34 acre parcel is located in an agricultural area.  We produce over 100 varieties of bedding plants, mostly flowers; whereby we specialize in the production of plant plugs.  We use propane to heat our greenhouse area in the Fall and Winter months.

The Accident Prevention and Emergency Response Policy at Van de Wetering Greenhouses, Inc. adheres to all applicable Federal, State and Local Laws.  If an emergency were to occur in connection with a failure of a propane storage tank, it is our policy to notify the Jamesport Fire Department and request that they respond to the emergency.

The management of Van de Wetering Greenhouses provides both usual and preventitive safety measures in the greenhouse.  Customary safety measures associated with a propane storage system are: compressors,  pressure relief valves, manual shut-off valves, and fire extinguishers.  These customary measures are available at our business location
and are inspected and updated on a routine basis.  Preventitive safety measures have also been implemented and include not only periodic inspection of equipment but also on-going personnel training on safety iissues as well.

Our worst case scenario would be the accidental release of propane from our storage system when filled to the greatest amount allowable (88%), resulting in a vapor cloud explosion.  Becaouse we are located in an agricultural area, on 34 acres of land, the worst case scenario would not affect anyone beyond our property.

We have never had an accident involving propane that caused injury or damage.  In the event of an emergency involving our propane system, it is our policy to notify the Jamesport Fire Department and request that they respond to the emergency.
