The Coldwater Board of Public Utilities/City of Coldwater operates a waste water treatment plant which utilizes chlorine gas as a disinfection. The Utility has provided all necessary components to the OSHA required Process Safety Management Plan in order to protect the public and employees against an accidental exposure of chlorine gas. The Utility has an excellent safety record with no gas realeased over the past five (5) years. The Utility has an emergency gas release procedure that is reviewed annually. The Utility has a monthly inspection program for gas detection alarms, emergency showers and SCBA breathing apparatus. Utility personnel and emergency respnce personnel from the full time fire department conduct annual emergency responce drills simulating a gas release.
