The City of Lumberton Wastewater Treatment Plant is committed to safety for their employees and the community.  The facility  serves the community by treating, on average, 7,000,000 gallons of waste water per day.  The waste water is disinfected by the use of chlorine.  The facility maintains cylinders of gas liquified by pressure on site for use in this process.  All operators are trained on the safe use of chlorine and operations are performed in accordance to the facilitiy's Process Safety Management Plan.  The treatment plant and local fire department staff have routinely conducted annual emergency response drills on site.  The facility has never had a release that has caused off-site consequences.
