FACILITY DESCRIPTION 
The BASF Corporation South Brunswick Site uses pentane.  This chemical is used in the manufacture of expandable polystyrene.  Expandable Polystyrene is used as building and packaging material and to make  
other domestic articles like bicycle helmets etc. 
 
RELEASE SCENARIOS 
WORST CASE 
Vapor cloud explosion resulting from release of pentane with off site impact.  Passive mitigation consists of a concrete dike.

ACCIDENTAL RELEASE PREVENTION PROGRAM 
To prevent accidental releases, this facility is in compliance with the EPA Risk Management Program,  
the OSHA Process Safety Management standard, and the Chemical Manufacturer Association's Responsible Care Process Safety Code.   
 
FIVE YEAR ACCIDENT HISTORY 
There has been no accidental releases at the BASF South Brunswick facility that meets the RMP reporting criteria. 
 
EMERGENCY RESPONSE PROGRAM 
This facility has an emergency response plan that is coordinated with the community plan.  Hazmat team members are trained and participate in regular drills. 
 
PLANNED CHANGES TO IMPROVE SAFETY 
Facility processes are routinely changed to improve safety as a result of employee suggestions, process hazard analyses, incident investigations, etc.
