For Chlorine Leak

The City of Dunkirk Release Prevention and Emergency Response Plan.

If chlorine alarm goes off in the plant and external alarm on chlorine building, the operator in charge makes the call to local Fire Department 366-2577. The Fire Department responds first.  In the time that the Fire Department takes to get here (within 7 minutes), the operators have a list of names to contact: Ray 366-9767, safety coordinator, Randy 366-9833, Director of Public Works. If the Fire Department thinks it necessary, they will call County HazMat team in. If it gets to the point where we have to evacuate, the county plan is initiated.  The local fire, police, Mayor, Public Works Director and Safety Coordinator will assist the County in coordinating the evacuation. It will be broadcast on Access 12 and radio and street by street to get the population to a safe place.  The training for this was just done on May 18, 1999 for chlorine training and on May 24, 25, 26 and 28 for tours with HazMa
t team and local fire dept. A drill was held on June 17 ,1999 to inform the public.
