The Andersons Seymour Wholesale Fertilizer facility is engaged in the handling, storage, shipping and receiving of bulk agricultural fertilizers (liquid and granular).  This facility was purchased by The Andersons, Inc. in June of 1999.  Key personnel at this facility are Mel Hahn, general manager and Richard Whitesell, operations manager.   The Seymour plant receives anhydrous ammonia by railcar and occasionally by tank truck.  Ammonia is transferred from railcar or truck into one of two 30,000 gallon (153,000 pound) pressurized storage tanks which lay horizontally within a diked area.  The west tank is used exclusively to feed ammonia into the process building for the manufacturing of polyphosphate fertilizer.  The east tank can be used to feed the fertilizer manufacturing process or to load ammonia into trucks and farmers' nurse tanks.  The plantis equippped with an alarm system which may be used to warn employees in the event of a spill, and safety showers in areas of potential che
mical exposure.  Training is conducted periodically and as needed.  Safety meetings are held regularly, and plant systems are inspected monthly for safety.
