Executive Summary - North Central Cooperative - Kanawha Facility Accidental release Prevention and Emergency Response Policies: This facility complies with regulated anhydrous ammonia storage requirements and it is our policy to to adhere to all applicable federal, state and local laws. If an emergency were to occur, it is our policy to notify the Kanawha Fire Department and request that they respond to the emergency. Description of Facility: This facility is a retail farm supplier. We sell anhydrous ammonia to local farmers for the purpose of crop production. On site we have a 26,000 gal and a 12,000 gallon storage tank for anhydrous ammonia. These tanks are filled to a maximum of 85% of capacity to allow for product expansion. Worst Case Release Scenario: Our worst case scenario is a gas release from one of our storage tanks. Acording to EPA's RMP Comp the distance to endpoint is 2.80 miles. There are residences, schools, recreation areas and a larg e industrial area within the distance to endpoint, with a total of 248 people affected. General Accident Release Prevention Program and Chemical Specific Prevention Steps: This facility complies with EPA's accident preevention rule and all applicable federal, state and local codes and regulations. This facility is inspected annually by in-house personnel and the Iowa Department of Agriculture. Five-Year Accident History: We have never had an accident involving anhydrous ammonia that causes death, injuries, property or environmental damage, evacuations or shelterings in place. The Emergency Response Program: In the event of an emergency involving our anhydrous ammoina facility, it is our policy to notify the Kanawha Fire Department and request that they respond to the emergency. We have discussed this policy with the fire department. Members of the fire department have inspected our anhydrous ammonia facility. Planned Changes to Improve Safety: None |
