It is the policy of Apperson Chemicals,Inc. to ensure a consistent position on environmental matters and to provide a coordinated effort to minimize adverse or potentially adverse effects of the companies activities on the natural environment or the surrounding hyman population. programs have been implemented to ensure that every effort is made to prevent the release of any chemical substance, the chemicals on site are stringently monitored to this end. 
In the case of a release,programs are in place to alert the proper authorities, as well as the proper responders in orderto limit the effect of the release on the surrounding community.

The Worst Case Scenarios and Alternative Release Scenarios are as follows; 
 
The worst case scenario for Chlorine would be a 150# release over a period of ten minutes. The release rate would be 10# per. min.. With urban surroundings the endpoint would be 1.2 miles. This would be assuming a wind speed of 3.4mph with a stability class of "F" and an air temperature of 77 degrees F. There are no mitigation measures and no administrative controls included in this scenario. 
The alternative scenario for Chlorine would be a 30# release over a period of 15 minutes. The release rate would be 2# per. min. With urban surroundings the end point would be .12 miles. This would be assuming a wind speed of 6.7mph with a stability class of "D" and a temperature of 77 degrees F..There are no mitigation measures and no administrative controls included in this scenario. 
 
The worst case scenario for Formaldehyde (water solution) 37% would be a 500# release over a period of 15 minutes. This would be a 33#  
per.min. rate of release. With urban surroundings the endpoint would be .19 miles. This would be assuming a wind speed of 1.5m/sec. with a stability class of "F". There are no mitigation measures and no administrative controls included in this scenario. 
The alternative scenario for Formaldehyde (water solutions) 37% would be a release of 30# over a period of 15 minutes. The release rate would be 2# per. min. with urban surroundings the endpoint would be .05 miles. This would be assuming a wind speed of 3.0m/sec. with a stability class of "D". There are no mitigation measures and no administrative controls included in this scenario. 
 
The worst case scenario for Hydrogen Fluoride/Hydrofluoric acid70% would be a 500# release over a period of 15 minutes. This would be a 31.2# per.min. rate of release. With urban surroundings the endpoint would be .81 miles> This would be assuming a wind speed of 1.5m/sec. with a stability class of "F". There are no mitigation and no administrative controls 
included in this scenario. 
The alternative scenario for Hydrogen Fluoride/Hydrofluoric acid 70% would be a release of 30# over a period of 15 minutes. This would be a release rate of 2# per.min.. With urban surroundings the endpoint would be .06 miles. This would be assuming a wind speed of 3.0 m/sec. with a stability class of "D". There are no mitigation measures and no administrative controls included in this scenario. 
 
All products are received in containers either cylinders or drums, these are unloaded from the trucks at dock level and brought into the warehouse, in the case of Chlorine cylinders they are inspected for integrity and leaks and placed into steel racks for transport,by forklift, to the storage area where they are stored at ground level. While in storage they are checked daily for any leakage. When they are neededfor delivery to our customers they are transported,by fork lift, back to the dock area where they are checked again for integrity and leakage. The drummed pr 
oducts are received, either shrink wrapped or banded, four to each pallet. The pallets are high grade pallets and are supplied by the shipper. These drums are checked for integrity and leakage and if acceptable they are transported, by fork lift, to the storage area.These drummed products are stored no higher than two drums in height, in the case of Hydrofluoric acid they are stored on racks with a capacity of 20,000 lbs. per section. In the case of Formaldehyde they are stored two drums high at ground level. Every effort is made to encourage our customer's to order full pallets, whenever possible, in order to keep the handling of individual drums to a minimum. While in stock the drums are checked daily for leakage. They are inspected again before they are loaded on a truck for delivery and if satisfactory they are shipped to our customer. The fork lifts used in the process of moving the drums or cylinders about are on regular maintenance programs carried out by the manufacturer's repr 
esentatives. All personnel that handle the drums by fork lift have completed the OSHA approved fork lift program. We do everything in our power to prevent any leakage  or loss to the environment.

If a release occurs that has the potential to threaten human health or the environment outside the facility or is serious enough to warrant response beyond the capabilities of the site where the incident has occurred the emergency coordinator will notify the following;

The personnel on site will be evacuated to a common meeting point and a head count will be taken to determine that everyone is accounted for. The police Department and the Hazardous Materials Team will decide on evacuation plans if necessary. 
 
The only changes available to Apperson Chemicals at present to improve safety is to lower inventories wherever possible.
