The Arnie's Bakery plant located in Nebraska City, Nebraska produces baked (partially & fully baked) bagels for the Food Service Industry. Current capacity is 2.5MM cases per year and produces bagels on a three shift, five(5) day production schedule (M - F). The orginal plant was constructed in 1993 and completed a plant expansion in 1998. As part of this plant expansion, an ammonia refrigeration system was designed and installed by The Stellar Group, Jacksonville, FL. The ammonia refrigeration system has a capacity of 14,500 lb. of ammonia which is used to provide refrigeration for a Northfield Spiral Freezer, Freezer warehouse (10,000 sq. ft.) and process air conditioning. The ammonia refrigeration equipment is housed in a concrete block building addition. This includes Frick compressors, intercooler, accumulator vessel, holding vessel, auto purging system, water pumps for roof top cooling tower and Stellar control system. The Stellar designed control system includes provision s via software and redundate safety devices, including relief valves, checkvalves automated valves and manual values. Ammonia sensors are located in the refrigeration engine room and throughout the production area and freezer warehouse. All employees including production and maintenance personnel have received training in MSDS and Life threatening levels of ammonia. In addition, twelve employees have successfully completed Hazardous training which provides for a minimum of 4 persons per shift for response coverage. Personal Safety equipment has been purchased and training in the use of the personal safety devices has been completed. The local city goverments ( Nebraska City and Otoe County) and residents have been notified of the potential harzardous involving Ammonia refrigeration. |
